From 15th to 31st March Ruse is a festival once again

It is an honor for our city that March Music Days International Festival long proven its place in the family of major classical music festivals in Europe. It is no coincidence that the festival is also received the honorary title of the European Festival Association "European Festival".

The program for its upcoming edition in 2024 offers to its large audience an exclusive variety of concerts as well as exciting encounters with established artists from nine countries all over the world, some of whom are debuting on the Bulgarian festival scene.

Already at the opening of the festival, the program puts an unusually strong repertoire and artistic emphasis with the performance of one of the greatest musical works of all time - the famous "Requiem" by Giuseppe Verdi, on the occasion of 150 years since its premiere in 1874 in Milan. The main participants in this large-scale production are the unique and unparalleled in the country and the Balkan region Ruse Festival Orchestra (which has been attracting former and current graduates of Ruse School of Arts in the last 14 years) and the Festival Choir, under the direction of the Ruse-born Bulgarian musician Emil Tabakov. The soloists of this large-scale production are artists of the class of the world-famous Bulgarian soprano Krasimira Stoyanova (also a graduate of Ruse School of Arts) and the talented young Bulgarian singers Violeta Radomirska, Milen Bozhkov and Deyan Vachkov.

Among the exclusive names in the artistic list of the festival are such world musicians as the Franco-Belgian string quartet "Danel", known for daring interpretations of Shostakovich, Weinberg, Beethoven, etc., the extraordinarily attractive Saxophone Quartet Signum, the brilliant trombone ensemble from Vienna - Trombon Attraction, as well as the exceptional trio of the concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic, Albena Danailova.

On the final festival evening on March 31, the young and talented Georgian pianist Giorgi Gigashvili will make his strong artistic debut in Bulgaria in the program of Ruse Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Dimitar Kosev.

Two of the leading Bulgarian orchestras are expected with special festival programs - the Sofia Philharmonics with conductor Nayden Todorov and soloist the famous pianist Elena Bashikarova, as well as Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra with conductor Georgi Dimitrov and soloist the young and exceptionally gifted Bulgarian pianist Emanuil Ivanov.

With particular interest, the audience will await the participation of the outstanding Bulgarian violinist Svetlin Rusev in two chamber programs with the world-famous Korean pianist Yeul Eum Son and the soprano Krassimira Stoyanova, which will undoubtedly become part of the numerous festival highlights in 2024.

Stage premieres have always been particularly attractive to the audience. The festival in 2024 is no exception, this time with the world premiere of the ballet "Calliope" by the famous Bulgarian composer and conductor Emil Tabakov, based on the libretto by Alexander Malchev. The realization of the ballet is by the Ruse State Opera, the staging is by the world-famous choreographer Konstantin Uralsky and conductor is the author of the music itself – maestro Tabakov.

The program offers two more important for Bulgarian music world premieres of works by recognized masters of contemporary music in our country - the composers Vasil Kazandzhiev, Bozhidar Spasov and Konstantin Iliev, included in the concerts of the elite German trio "Abstrakt" and one of the best Bulgarian string quartets – Frosh String Quartet.
