63rd March Music Days Music Festival: 24 events, transcending geographical and creative boundaries in art

     This year's 63rd edition of the March Music Days International Festival, organized by the Municipality of Ruse under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, will get off to a stellar start. The explicit program of the festival, including and the accompanying events, was presented by the deputy mayor Encho Enchev, the main organizer and member of the program board Iva Chavdarova and the director of NUI "Prof. Vesselin Stoyanov" Maria Dukanova.

     On 15th March, on the festival stage for the first time in Ruse, the world-renowned Bulgarian soprano, a graduate of the National School of Arts "Prof. Vesselin Stoyanov" - Krassimira Stoyanova, will perform one of the greatest musical works of all time - the famous "Requiem" by Giuseppe Verdi. Side by side with her will be the young and extremely gifted Bulgarian opera singers with an enviable international career for their age: Deyan Vachkov (bass), Milen Bozhkov (tenor) and Violeta Radomirska (mezzo-soprano). The large-scale production also includes the Festival Orchestra, the only one of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula, created 14 years ago. It gathers current and former graduates of the Music School in Ruse, and this year, especially for the festival, instrumentalists building careers in Germany, Spain, Singapore, Egypt, Great Britain, USA, Austria, Colombia and Oman will arrive in the city. Over 80 musicians and 60 choristers from the Festival Choir, including the mixed choir of the Ruse Opera, participants from the Danube Sounds Choir and soloists of the Ruse Opera, prepared by Steliyana Dimitrova-Hernani, will bring together the first concert of the festival, conducted by the Ruse-born great Bulgarian composer and conductor Emil Tabakov. "This concert is a 10-year dream come true," note the organizers.  One of the biggest events in this year's edition is the premiere of the ballet in 2 acts "Calliope", the music of which is created by maestro Tabakov, and the libretto by Alexander Malchev, also born in Ruse.

     After the audience enjoyed the music in 2023, this spring, for the first time, the ballet of the State Opera - Ruse will perform this choreographic work, the work of the great Russian ballet master Konstantin Uralsky.  The festival will offer many more musical surprises for both classical fans and jazz and contemporary music lovers.

     The extremely attractive quartet "Trombone Attraction" from Vienna will make their debut in Bulgaria, the French-Belgian string quartet "Danel" with a completely classical program, as well as the trio "Abstrakt" from Germany, who will also premiere compositions by Bozhidar Spasov on the occasion of his 75 birthday. The festival will offer another premiere of a Bulgarian composer on 21st March - the Second Piano Quintet of V. Kazandzhiev, performed by one of the best Bulgarian string quartets "Frosh" and the talented pianist Gergana Nestorova.  Jazzmen Veselin Veselinov Eko and Milen Kokusharov have prepared an exciting jazz evening for the fans, and Albena Danailova (violin), Nadezhda Vlaeva (piano) and Alexander Somov (cello) will show their class in a rare musical collaboration with performances by Piazzolla, Boulanger and Ravel.Saxophone quartet Signum return to the festival stage to present their new album Chameleon, in which they continue the rehabilitation of the saxophone on the classical music scene.

     Star-studded gala nights await the guests of the festival who chose to enjoy the Love Duets of the Ruse violinist Svetlin Roussev and the famous Korean pianist Yeoul Eum Son, who will have a second joint performance together with Krassimira Stoyanova on 18th March.

     The Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra and maestro Georgi Dimitrov will perform works by Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Khachaturian with the rising soloist Emanuil Ivanov, who is also preparing a solo recital as part of the festival program. The chamber ensemble "Sofia Soloists" with conductor Konstantin Dobroykov will partner with the stars Mincho and Nikolay Minchevi, and on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its founding, the Ruse choir "Prof. Vasil Arnaudov" with conductor Svilen Dimitrov.

     Traditionally, the festival gives the opportunity to perform even to the youngest talents - the winners of the "Franz Schubert" International Music Competition for classical Singing, piano and chamber Music, whose last edition was exceptionally strong.

      Тhe 63rd edition of the MF "March Music Days" ends with the participation of the renowned Georgian pianist Giorgi Gigashvili as a soloist of the Ruse Philharmonic under the baton of Dimitar Kosev.
