Pablo Baragan, clarinet

He studied with Antonio Salguero at the Conservatory of Seville and with Matthias Glander at the Barenboim-Said Foundation, also in Seville. Among several other competitions, in 2013 he won the Prix Crédit Suisse Jeunes Solistes.

He has performed with orchestras including the Brucknerhaus Orchestra in Linz, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, and the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, under the batons of conductors such as Anja Bihlmaier, Daniel Raiskin, and Zsolt Hamar.

Pablo is one of the most sought-after chamber music partners. He has had the honor of performing with distinguished artists such as Elena Bashkirova, Beatrice Rana, Kian Soltani, Yulianna Avdeeva, Emmanuel Pahud, the Modigliani Quartet, the Sitkovetsky Trio, and the Cremona and Schumann Quartets. His chamber music performances have taken place at major venues such as the Hamburg and Cologne Philharmonies, the Konzerthaus Dortmund, as well as festivals including the Rheingau Music Festival, the Martha Argerich Festival, and concert halls such as Wigmore Hall in London and Tonhalle Zurich.

During the 2024/2025 season, he will appear as soloist with several orchestras, including as conductor and soloist with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra in Kronberg, performing Karl Amadeus Hartmann’s Chamber Concerto. He is also scheduled to perform Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the SUK Chamber Orchestra of Prague under Wilhelm F. Walz, with the Biel Solothurn Symphony Orchestra, and with Camerata Musicalis, with whom he will make his debut at Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid. He will also perform Stanford’s Clarinet Concerto with the Stadtorchester Thun.

This season also includes numerous chamber music engagements and performances at international music festivals such as Marvão Festival (Portugal), KaposFest (Hungary), March Music Days in Ruse (Bulgaria), Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival, Zwischentöne in Engelberg (Switzerland), Mosel Music Festival (Germany), and Schaumburg Castle concert series (Germany). Alongside Noa Wildschut and Frank Dupree, he will perform at Beethovenhaus Bonn, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, NFM Wrocław, and at summer festivals in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Nymphenburg. Upcoming concerts will also take him to L’Aquila (Italy) with the Cremona Quartet.

The repertoire of his latest album Balagan, recorded with Noa Wildschut and Frank Dupree, reflects Pablo's creative spirit and curiosity. The recording focuses on works by Jewish composers of the 20th century, including Paul Schoenfield, Ernest Bloch, Claude Vivier, and Darius Milhaud, and was released in 2024 under the Accentus label.

Since 2020, Pablo Barragán has been teaching at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Seville and gives masterclasses at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid. He is an artist for Buffet Crampon clarinets and performs on an RC Prestige model.
