Already 12 years ago, bassist Deyan Vachkov was called the New Boris Hristov of Bulgaria. Born in Sofia, he graduated from the Miguel de Cervantes Spanish High School and the Pancho Vladigerov Academy of Music in the singing class of Prof. Karapetrov and Prof. Nedyalkov. He won the prestigious "Belvedere" competition, at which he was awarded the "Verdi Preis" and "Kammeroper Preis" awards, and they opened the way for him to a global career.
His debut in Vienna in the role of Don Basilio from Rossini's The Barber of Seville impressed the demanding public and determined his success on the most prestigious opera stages. Deyan Vachkov became a member of the Opera Studio at Milan's La Scala, where he participated in "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Donizetti, "The Barber of Seville" by Rossini and "Oberto, Count di San Bonifacio" by Verdi. He won First Prize and the special prize "Arrigo Boito" at the international competition in Padua.
He sang in "Don Juan" by Mozart in Tokyo, Budapest and Tenerife. Performed the role of Timur in Puccini's Turandot in Toronto, Torre del Lago, Bilbao and Macerata. On the stage of the Arena di Verona, he appeared in "Carmen", "Bohemia", "Aida" and "Romeo and Juliet".
He was applauded in Bellini's operas The Pirate in Amsterdam and Puritans in Palm Beach, as Raimondo from Lucia di Lammermoor in Palermo, Valencia and Frankfurt. Participated in productions of "Bohemia" in Tokyo, Seattle and Bari. He performs Verdi's Requiem in Madrid and Frankfurt, sings in the Troubadour on the stages of Parma, Las Palmas and Ravenna, tours with The Barber of Seville in Trieste, Lausanne and Vichy, presents Sparafuccile from Rigoletto in Monte Carlo.
In 2012, he participated in "Masnadieri" by Verdi in Naples, guested with "Tosca" in Milan, with "Carmen" and "Don Giovanni" at the Arena di Verona. In 2013, he was invited to participate with "Bohemia" in Seoul, with Verdi's Requiem in Lucca and with "Romeo and Juliet" in Verona. Dejan Vachkov worked with conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chai, Daniel Oren, Nicola Luisotti, Daniele Callegari, Donaldo Renzetti, Stefano Ranzani and directors of the rank of Franco Zeffirelli, Hugo de Anna, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Robert Carsen, Yanis Kokos. Since the 2013-2014 season, Deyan Vachkov is a soloist of the Varna State Opera.
His debut in Bulgaria was on the Varna stage with the roles of Zakaria from "Nabucco", Ramfis from "Aida", Philip from "Don Carlos" by Verdi, Don Giovanni in "Don Giovanni" by Mozart, Don Pasquale from "Don Pasquale" by Donizetti and others.
The singer presented an exceptional Abbot Faria in the musical "Count of Monte Cristo" by Yves Desca, whose world premiere in Varna in the summer of 2016 was a huge success.
In 2018, he participated in the Beijing premiere of "Tais" by Massenet, in which Placido Domingo played the main role, responded to the invitation of the Bolshoi Theater for "Ball with Masks" by Verdi, and on the Varna stage he made his debut in the role of Oroveso from Bellini's Norma.
In 2023, together with Alexandrina Pendachanska, Ivan Momirov, Smesenia and Children's Radio Choir, as well as the Symphony Orchestra of the BNR conducted by Grigor Palikarov, participated in the opera gala concert organized by the National Radio as a continuation of the large-scale project "Bulgarian Opera Voices".
