Alexander Hinchev, piano

Alexander Hinchev was born in Sofia, in a family of musicians. He made his debut as a performer with the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A minor by Grieg. He graduated from the Music Academy in Sofia as a student of Prof. Konstantin Ganev. He later studied with Vincenzo Vitale at the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome, where he graduated with honors and a Special Jury Prize.

He is a laureate of the Buzoni International Competition – Bolzano and of the First Prize of the International Piano Competition in Budapest.

Valuable advice and contacts with personalities of the magnitude of Svyatoslav Richter, Yakov Flier, Luciano Berio, Alexis Weissenberg, Georges Pretre, Sergio Fiorentino and others influenced its formation.

Toured in Italy, Austria, Spain, Bulgaria, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, France, Hungary, Belgium, USA, Japan, Mexico City, etc.

He has worked with some of the greatest singers and instrumentalists of our time such as the great bass Boris Hristov, the mezzo-soprano Kathy Berberyan, the cellist Franco Maggio Ormetsovski and currently in a piano duo with Vovka Ashkenazy.

He has played in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world: Konzerthaus – Vienna, Teatro Grande – Bergamo, Teatro Massimo – Palermo, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Comunale in Genoa, Teatro Petrucelli in Bari, Palazzo Labia in Venice, the famous Tchaikovsky Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Hall of the National Philharmonic of Mexico in Mexico City, the Hall of the Philharmonic in Nagoya, Japan, etc.

Hinchev leads piano master classes in a number of countries around the world: the Catholic University in Washington, San Pietro a Maiella – Naples, in Leipzig at the Academies of Milan, Messina, Cosenza, Lucca, etc.

Critics do not spare superlatives for his performances, emphasizing especially the combination of brilliant virtuosity with subtle sensitivity and artistry, as one of the latest reviews from Germany is titled: Every key touched is an absolute emotion!

In May 2014, he was awarded an Honorary Gold Medal by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture for outstanding services at the international celebration of 100 years of Boris Hristov.
