Violoncellissimo is one of the most famous Romanian chamber ensembles of the last 15 years and was created on the initiative of the famous cellist Kazaku, who, together with his current and former students, opens the way for the promotion of music and young talents from Romania.
In 2001, the Violoncellissimo concert at the George Enescu International Festival was a huge success. Seven years later, Violoncellissimo stunned the audience with an unprecedented musical moment when 60 cellists took to the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum - "a concert worthy of the record book", as the press wrote at the time. On May 26, 2013, Marin Kazaku took to the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum again, this time in an extraordinary concert with 100 cellists.
The "Violoncellissimo" project, created by Prof. Kazaku more than 30 years ago, was born from his desire to develop the creativity of his students, but also to bring people closer to music, regardless of its genre. In 2024, together with the ensemble, he plans to reach as many communities as possible, including the Romanian diaspora in a series of tours.
Marin Kazaku is the general director of the George Enescu Philharmonic and professor of cello at the National University of Music in Bucharest. He has performed with Gennadiy Rozhdestvenski, Sergiu Comisiona, Horia Andreescu, Antoni Ross Marba, Vladimir Orlov, Radu Aldulescu and Jeremy Menuhin. appearances at international festivals such as those in Berlin, Hong Kong, Macau, Munich, Milan, Osaka Seoul, Tokyo.
In recent years, the Violoncellissimo ensemble has performed concerts at important cultural events in Romania and abroad, including the Concert for the 140th Anniversary of the Birth of Constantin Brancusi, National Culture Day, the UNITER Gala Awards, Concert for Hope and UNESCO 2021.
On February 11, 2024, the ensemble will perform a concert on the stage of the Sofia Philharmonic, Bulgaria Hall. The ensemble will present a varied program adapted for cello, music of all genres.
