Albena Danailova was born in Sofia to the family of the violinist Boyan Danailov and the pianist Violeta Popova. She graduated from the National Music School "Lyubomir Pipkov" and the National Music Academy "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia under Neli Zheleva and Prof. Dora Ivanova. Danailova has won awards from the competitions "Svetoslav Obretenov", "Young Musical Talents", The Kotzian International Competition and "Concertino Prague" - Czech Republic, in Kloster Schöntal - Germany, "Tibor Varga" - Switzerland, "Vittorio Gui" - Italy. In 2001 she graduated from the Higher School of Music and Theater in Rostock, Germany under Prof. Petru Munteanu and continued her education in the master classes of Ida Handel, Hermann Krebers and others.
In the same year, she was appointed to the position of second violinist in the Bavarian State Orchestra, where in 2003 she became first violinist, and in 2006 - concertmaster. In the 2003/2004 season she also played in the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Albena Danailova is the first woman to become concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, known for its conservatism. She applied and won the position after a tough competition in 2008, and after a two-year trial period, she was officially appointed to the prestigious position. Undisputed talent and exceptional professional, Albena Danailova, apart from being a concertmaster, also has a successful career as a soloist and chamber musician. She performs regularly in Bulgaria, Germany, Israel and the USA. She has recordings for German radio "Kultur", North German Radio, Bulgarian National Radio and Bulgarian National Television. Since 2011, Danailova has been the leader of "Ensemble Wien" (as successor to Paul Gugenberger and Rainer Honeck). Danailova is also a professor of violin at the Vienna State University. The violin that she plays on was given to her by the Austrian National Bank.
