Plovdiv Opera Symphony Orchestra

The orchestra of the State Opera - Plovdiv is the successor of the Plovdiv Philharmonic - the first non-capital and most authoritative state orchestra, created in 1945. The chief conductors in the past years were Vladi Simeonov, Ruslan Raichev, Mesru Mehmedov, Dobrin Petkov, Dimitar Manolov, Vladimir Gyaurov, Borislav Ivanov, Nayden Todorov, Georgi Dimitrov, Alexey Izmirliev. Since the beginning of the 2013/2014 concert season, the band's musical director is Dian Chobanov.

The orchestra has a rich repertoire of classical and contemporary music and numerous first performances of works by Bulgarian and foreign composers. Among them are a number of works by Shostakovich, Mahler, Bruckner, Onegger, Bernstein, Prokofiev, Tsemlinsky, L. Nikolov, K. Iliev, Kr. Kurkchiyski and others.

The orchestra's performances are versatile - in the symphonic, operatic, cantata-oratorio genre, operetta and ballet, presented in the country and abroad. In recent years, the orchestra has been a welcome partner of well-known rock groups and performers. Among the guest conductors, the names of notable personalities from the country and abroad stand out. Partnered with world-famous musicians such as Dmitri Shostakovich, Svyatoslav Richter, Mstislav Rostropovich, Daniil Shafran, Ruggiero Ricci, Henry Schering, Igor Oistrakh, Leonid Kogan, etc. In the long list of guest soloists stand out the names of Mincho Minchev, Georgi Badev, Anton Dikov, Bozhidar Noev, Lyudmil Angelov, Nikolay Gyaurov, Gena Dimitrova, Nikola Gyuzelev, Alexandrina Milcheva, Raina Kabaivanska, Veselina Katsarova, Krasimira Stoyanova, Plamena Mangova, Sonya Yoncheva...

The orchestra performs in famous European halls - Theater "Chatle" in Paris, "Tonhalle" in Bonn, Great Hall of the Conservatory in Moscow, Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg, "Brucknerhaus" in Linz, Auditoriums in Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza and Palma de Majorca, the Grosse Festspielhaus in Salzburg and the Musikferein in Vienna. He has repeatedly participated in national and international festivals - "Sofia Music Weeks", "March Music Days", "Varna Summer", "New Bulgarian Music", the Contemporary Music Festival - Zagreb, etc.

The orchestra performs concert tours in almost all European countries and appearances in prestigious music forums at home and abroad: Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Russia, Austria, France, Greece, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands. There are recordings for BNR and BNT, as well as recordings on gramophone records and CDs. He is the winner of a number of awards, including the "Crystal Lyre" of The Union of Music and Dance Actors in Bulgaria (2007, 2011), the "Plovdiv" award (2006, 2012) and others.
