The Musica Nova Еnsemble brings together young composers, instrumentalists, and conductors. It features some of the most talented and intelligent musicians of the young and middle generation. Originally called the Academic College for New Music, the ensemble participates in the annual review of New Bulgarian Music with first performances of works by L. Nikolov, G. Tutev, B. Spasov, and others. In 1990, after the founding of the Bulgarian section of the International Society for New Music (ISCM), the ensemble (now as Musica Nova) took over the main part of the Society's concert events - monthly concerts, and after 1993 part of the concerts of the newly founded contemporary music festival. in Sofia.
The ensemble performs on almost all prestigious festivals in the country - March Music Days in Ruse, Varna Summer, Sofia Music Weeks, New Year's Festival in Sofia, Apollonia Arts Festival in Sozopol, Ivan Spasov Winter Music Evenings in Pazardzhik, American Music Week, and others.
The international performances of the ensemble are related to festivals such as Wien Modern, Melos - Ethos (Slovakia), Musica сontemporanea (Italy), Meridian (Romania), YOUrope together (Germany). In 2018, the ensemble participated in the Bridges International Festival with a premiere concert at the Konzerthaus in Vienna.
The musicians work with such renowned figures as A. Vieru, F. Goldman, D. Schnebel, K. Asher, S. Gavrilov, R. Evers, S. Pironkov, V. Kazandjiev, J. Dafov, V. Nikolov, P. Balev, P. Dzhurov, H. Bledsow, and others.
The ensemble regularly collaborates with Bulgarian National Radio, where it realizes studio recordings of newly written compositions. The prominent Bulgarian conductor and composer Dragomir Yossifov is a permanent conductor and leader of the ensemble.
