Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra

The Sofia Soloists Chamber Ensemble was founded in 1962 by a group of young musicians from the Sofia Opera. Their first concert in March 1962, conducted by Mikhail Angelov, attracted the interest and sympathy of the Sofia audience. Soon after that, the first concerts and tours abroad began.

Three conductors shaped the vision and sound of the orchestra: Vasil Kazandjiev (1964-1978), Emil Tabakov (1979-1988), and the current conductor Plamen Djurov, who took over the orchestra in 1988 to the present day.

Sofia soloists have performed over 3000 concerts around the world. They have won awards at major festivals in Germany and France and are very popular at a number of international festivals such as San Sebastian and Santander (Spain), Zagreb and Dubrovnik (Croatia), Sita di Castella (Italy), Leuven (Belgium), Bergen (Norway).
