Plamen Dzhurov

Plamen Dzhurov graduated from the National Academy of Music in the classes of Prof. Mara Balsamova (piano), Prof. Konstantin Iliev (conducting), and Prof. Marin Goleminov (composition).

In 1976 he started working as a conductor of the Pleven Philharmonic, where he worked for six years. He works in the system of State Music Unification "Music"  and tours in Mexico, Cuba, Germany, Algeria, Cyprus, Macedonia, Russia, where he works with the Philharmonic of St. Petersburg.

Since 1988 he has been the conductor of the "Sofia Soloists" Chamber Ensemble. Every year he organizes dozens of concerts of the ensemble in Sofia and the country. Each concert is recorded and broadcast by BNR, and some of the concerts are broadcast by BNT abroad. In the recent history of the band, there are several direct broadcasts for the whole of Europe on the European Union's line for radio and television broadcasting.

Together with "Sofia soloists" he performs hundreds of concerts in over 30 countries in Europe, North America, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. Among his numerous radio and television recordings (over 400) is the series of first performances of works by Bulgarian and foreign authors, as well as recordings for record companies such as Denon, Victor, ABC, Records, with which he released the integrals of J.C. Bach and the Integral Panorama of Guitar and Orchestra Literature. It is also responsible for a series of premiere performances by foreign and Bulgarian composers and the first performances with an orchestra of young Bulgarian talents.

His work as a composer is mainly focused on instrumental genres. His works have been performed and recorded in a number of foreign countries: Piano Sonata (1975); Elegy for Orchestra (1980); Toccata for Orchestra (1982); Fantasy for Orchestra (1985); Four Ballads, Cadence for Saxophone and Violin, Saxophonia, Antichrist.

He is a professor of conducting at the National Music Academy in Sofia. His students and graduates work in different cities in Bulgaria and around the world.

He is also active in the field of music art and cultural construction. He is often sought after as an expert on music culture. After 1990 he was one of the founders of a series of non-profit organizations related to the Bulgarian musical heritage - the foundations Boris Hristov, Pancho Vladigerov, Petko Stoyanov, Sofia Music Weeks, and Music Author.

He is the winner of a series of awards for composition and conducting, including Crystal Lyre, Golden Pen, awards of SBC, SMDB, Sofia Municipality, incl. and the title of Honorary Citizen of Sofia.
