Dian Chobanov is one of the most talented Bulgarian conductors, whose name is known not only in Bulgaria, but also on prestigious European stages. He was born in Plovdiv. He completed his education at the Pancho Vladigerov Academy of Music in Sofia, where he studied orchestral conducting with prof. Vasil Kazandzhiev, and opera with prof. Ivan Vulpe. He then studied at the University of Music and Fine Arts in Vienna under prof. Uroš Lajović. He graduated from both higher education institutions with honors and an academic degree of Master of Arts.
In 2000, he attended a master class in conducting with Sir Colin Davis in Dresden. In 2003, he was engaged by the Vienna Philharmonic as a pianist for concerts conducted by Seiji Ozawa. Dian Chobanov is the permanent conductor of the Sofia Philharmonic and the Schonbrunn Chamber Orchestra (Vienna).
He is also a permanent guest conductor of the Dohnani Orchestra and Concert Orchestra (Budapest) and the Croatian Chamber Orchestra. Since 2007, he has been the chief conductor of the State Opera - Stara Zagora, and later became a permanent guest conductor of the Croatian National Theater in Rijeka and the Croatian National Opera Theater in Zagreb. Chobanov was the music director of the Oper Oder-Spree, the festival in Neutzele (Germany, 2001) and the assistant of the festival Wiener und Osterklangbogen (Vienna, 2002). Participated in the festivals Days of Austrian Music in Sofia, Varna Summer, Festival of Opera and Ballet Art - Stara Zagora, Biennale of Contemporary Music - Zagreb, Summer Nights (Rijeka, Croatia) and others. He is the winner of a number of awards from international competitions for conductors, incl. second and the special prize of the competition Lovro von Matacic (Zagreb, 2003).
The young musician also has numerous engagements for recording activities with IGNM - International Society for Nova music (Austria), IMaGE Music Agency (Vienna), Fabio d'Andrea (London), Bugarian National Radio, Austrian National Radio, Balkan Multimedia Center, EuroClassic MusicManagement.
