Music for a While, or How Much Jazz Is There in Baroque is an original musical project by a group of talented Bulgarian musicians: the Pilekadone Quintet, the Konstantin Kostov Trio, and the young and captivating opera singer Rumyana Kostova.
The concert brings together two seemingly opposite poles—Baroque and jazz—through the successful intertwining of the creative energies of these distinguished Bulgarian performers. The program features songs, arias, and instrumental pieces by Henry Purcell and George Frideric Handel, presented in masterful arrangements by Konstantin Kostov for soprano, wind quintet, and jazz trio. These works are shaped into a perfectly balanced dramaturgy, with a remarkable sense of proportion, where the interaction between voice, wind quintet, and jazz trio is so organic that it feels as though it were inherent in the composers’ original intent.
The Pilekadone Quintet boldly combines genres, engages with new styles, and creates unconventional collaborations for the classical stage. Its members are Mila Pavlova (flute), Valentin Metodiev (oboe), Venelin Piperov (clarinet), Yasen Teodosiev (French horn), and Evgeni Tonev (bassoon), the ensemble being a recipient of the Golden Lyre and Acad. Marin Goleminov awards for outstanding artistic achievements in chamber music.
The Konstantin Kostov Trio is a jazz formation comprising iconic performers from the jazz scene: Konstantin Kostov (piano, recipient of the Crystal Lyre award for jazz), Hristo Yotsov (percussion), and Dimitar Karamfilov (double bass).
Joining them on stage will be the young and talented opera soprano with a rapidly rising international career - Rumyana Kostova.
